The firm’s founding father, Robert A. Wilbrandt, Sr. was born and raised in Crystal Lake, graduating from Crystal Lake High School in 1935.  After graduating from the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana) and then DePaul Law School, Robert, Sr. became a corporate attorney for Marshall Fields in Chicago in 1945.  On the weekends, Robert, Sr. would help his Crystal Lake neighbors with their real estate purchases and sales, drafting their wills, and taking care of probate estate matters.

In 1972, Robert A. Wilbrandt, Sr. incorporated his Crystal Lake law practice.  Joined in 1986 by his two sons Robert A. Wilbrandt, Jr. and Laurence A. Wilbrandt, the three lawyer family firm quickly expanded and handled every type of legal case from adoption matters to zoning cases.  For the next 20 years, the firm helped people in the community resolve their legal issues.

After Robert A. Wilbrandt, Jr. became a McHenry County judge in 2006, and Robert A. Wilbrandt, Sr. died in 2007, Laurence A. Wilbrandt (Larry) managed the firm dealing with all civil law matters such as personal injury, collections, and corporations as well as real estate, wills and trusts, and probate cases.  Larry has been a solo practitioner for the last 6 years, but continued the family firm tradition.

Next came Daniel J. Wilbrandt (Dan).  As the third generation of attorneys to work for the firm, starting in 2021, Larry’s son Dan was an Assistant State’s Attorney for McHenry County.  Dan started at the State’s Attorney’s Office in 2012 and eventually became the Chief of the Criminal Division, before leaving in 2021 to join the firm.  Dan will use his criminal prosecution experience to expertly defend all of his clients that are charged with criminal offenses, ranging from traffic tickets to major felonies.
